This means that when setting up your plants, sand or gravel, rocks, and other misc decor, to be sure there are plenty of caves, nooks, and tunnels that your fish can explore. In addition to exploring, some fish will hide when they feel threatened. Also note that you should keep lots of free swimming room for the fish.

Bear in mind the types of fish when initially planning on how to decorate. Some fish don't like all setups that other fish do like. Researching what types of environment fish like can go a long way when planning.

Your aquarium decor isn't just there for looking good. You can also use them to disguise ugly pluming and other fish tank necessities. Some fish with enjoy the relaxing in the shelter, and may even lay their eggs.

Fish will sometimes create territorial boundaries out of the rocks and structures. Fish love to explore, and the more ridges and holes the better.
