I have been teaching others how to repair their credit for several years now. I can't even begin to tell you some of the horror stories that I have heard from my students. The goal of this article is to avoid having to hear any more of those horror stories by teaching you how to erase bad credit yourself.
I think it's fair to say that most consumers know that having bad credit can be costly in today's economy. The bottom line is if you have bad credit you end up being excluded from a lot of life's necessities. Over the years I have had students tell me that they couldn't even open a bank account due to their bad credit. I have even had students show me the amount of interest they were paying on various types of loans because of their bad credit. I could go on forever with the stories that I have heard.
In order to begin your journey to erase bad credit like a pro you first need to get an idea of exactly where you stand. The only way to perform this task is to request your current credit report. Getting your credit report is not only easy, but it's free. Thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act every American is entitled to at least one free credit report per year. My recommendation is that you check your credit report bi-annually. After all this is your financial future that is at risk.
At this point you should have three copies of your credit report in your hands. That is you should have a report from all three of the major credit bureaus. Go through each of the credit reports highlighting all of the negative marks that you can find. If for some reason you come across something on your credit report that you do not understand dont hesitate to contact the the bureaus. They are there to assist you, and besides its their job.
After you have located all of the negative marks on your credit report it is time to write a letter of dispute. Don't attempt to get fancy when writing your letter of dispute i.e. trying to create letterhead or using big words that you wouldn't normally use. The truth of the matter is I have gotten better results from hand written letters than any other technique that I have tried.
STOP THE PRESSES!!! What I am about to say is extremely important. It is a MUST that you mail your letters of dispute via certified mail. I know it sounds pretty simple but you will be amazed at how many people fail to do this. Keep in mind your certified receipt is the only proof that you have of when you actually sent your letters out.
After you have dropped your letters of dispute in the mail and you have your certified mail receipt in hand, the credit bureaus have 30 days to investigate your claims. Holding on to your certified mail receipt is the only thing that you have as proof of when you mailed your letters out.
Obviously repairing your credit is way beyond the realm of this article, however the information that I have given you thus far will defiantly get you off to a good start. If you would like to further your studies I have put together 20 Free tip videos regarding credit repair. The videos are based on the most commonly asked questions that people have asked me over the years. The link to the videos can be found at the end of this article. - 23802
